2011 Summer English Camp Recruiting Begins!

Conversational English Camps International is recruiting Ukrainian university-age students (ages 17-25) for its summer 2011 English camps in Pusha Voditsa. These camps are a great way to build friendships with North Americans, British, Australians and New Zealanders and to practice English with native speakers.

The focus is not on English teaching, but on creating opportunities for Ukrainian students to practice conversational English speech with native speakers.

There will be 10 to 15 North Americans, British, Australians or New Zealanders at each camp, and 15 to 25 Ukrainians. Each Ukrainian will live in a room with at least one American or British person. This is an opportunity to speak English 24 hours a day!

We will live in Slavutich sanitorium in Pusha Voditsa, which has good living conditions (a toilet and shower in each three-person room, plus great food). There is a forest right nearby for campfires and lakes for swimming. We'll play volleyball, frisbee and American baseball--as well as other games and activities.

Camp dates:

July 12-21

August 2-11

Cost of the camp is 800 UAH, which includes 10 days at the sanitorium and three full meals each day. It's a great value!

Email UkraineEnglishCamps@gmail.com or call 8-097-386-7886 if you want more information or to schedule an interview. We will be holding interviews over the next three weeks at a library near KPI metro or at Dreamtown near Minska metro (Click on the link in the green bar on the right if you want to see a map or directions to the interview locations).

Call for more details and to find out interview times, as they vary. We hope to make decisions about who will attend by June 6. Space is limited, so contact us soon. You don't want to miss this camp! It offers incredible English practice, plus it's a lot of fun!

Click on the links in the green sidebar if you want to watch video interviews with satisfied participants from past years. There also is a link to a video of one of the past camps, and a link to show the typical daily schedule at camp. Enjoy!

Christmas parties!

What fun we had celebrating Western Christmas together with our various groups. We had lots of laughs exchanging gifts and playing games--not to mention eating! Santa Claus even came for a visit. :)
Chocolate-eating game--everyone's a winner who gets a bite of chocolate!

Decorating American Christmas cookies--these are in the shape of Christmas trees.

Enjoying some yummy treats with juice and tea.

American Thanksgiving Meal

We had a great American Thanksgiving feast with students from one of our groups. Turkey, potatoes and gravy and fresh homemade bread. Plus a few tasty American pies for dessert!
Here we are anticipating the feast!

Costume Party

We had a great time dressing up in funny costumes, playing interesting games, carving pumpkins and eating sweet treats. Another great opportunity to reconnect with friends from camp.

Carving faces into pumpkins
Quite a costume!

Bowling and Pizza party

We had another reunion event in early October when we went bowling together and ate some tasty homemade American pizza. Yum! What a great chance to renew friendships from camp and to practice English.

Another team raising their bowling balls to show their toughness
Eating homemade pizza after bowling
Playing group games after pizza. These two are showing their toughness!

English Clubs

Our English clubs have been great this year! We offered clubs on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and one on Tuesday afternoon. It was fun talking about topics like chocolate, money, the differences between men and women. Playing English-speaking games and drinking tea was pretty okay too! :)
Playing Catch Phrase, a great way to practice English
Discussing our favorite kind of chocolate after a fun taste test.
Making tasty banana splits at a party at the end of our first eight-week English club session

After camp reunion picnics

After camp in early September, all the Ukrainian campers came together for a great time eating shashlik, playing games and just renewing friendships established at camp. What fun!
